Australian Olympic Distance Championships - Perth Challenge

Kaye, Bridget, Lisa and Lucy post race at the Australian Olympic distance Championships in Perth.

Adelaide Vales had a good presence (good looking presence!?) in Perth on March 15th for the Australian Triathlon Championships and as part of the National Selection Race Series.  Some were chasing double selection points, others chasing podium finishes.  Conditions were windy and a forecast of 38 degrees (which luckily didn’t eventuate).  Over 950 competitors in the Olympic Distance Age Group Race which was approx 500 more than last years Aust Champs (and only 1 Vales person there last year so great to see more competing at this level).

It was an early start (7.18pm) for some and time for a morning nap for others (9.20 start).
The Swan River Jelly Fish were very friendly.  The bike and run course were flat out & back loops, ie with head wind / tail wind.  (Loved that tail wind on the bike)
Everyone went really well and some fast times and splits posted.

Phil showing how NOT to do the bike to run transition......

Age group placings listed – provisional (I think these are correct, sorry if not):

Adam: 37th had a great race in a tough age group, great to see him out racing.

Kerry: 37th flew on fancy race wheels & full on determination
Phil: 6th great swim & bike leg combination (crap transition...)
Michael:  39th looked very strong with a very fast run
Bridgette: 27th dug deep for the points & came home strong
Lisa: 1st  Very Happy!
Shane: 12th super fast bike with fastest Adel Vales time of the day 2hrs 52 sec!
Lucy: 31st  great bike and solid race with short prep time
Mel:  21st  great consistent performance across all three legs, Mum was impressed.
Kaye: 12th solid performance finishing with a good run
Trudy: 7th very fast bike leg and dug deep to finish well on the run

Support Crew & Cheer Squad performed very well, thanks Marcus, Cindy, Mel’s Mum & any others I’ve missed sorry,

but thanks for being there & cheering the Vales Crew on.

Lisa being crowned the Australian Champion for age group - congratulations Lisa.

The last selection race is Geelong with a few club members heading over for those very valuable points, then its wait & see time with fingers crossed for as many Vales Club Members heading to Gold Coast for the World Champs in Sept as possible, including the sprint distance crew as well. (race report provided by Lisa)

Mighty Murray Man

Back to Back Murray Man Champion Matt White

Sunday seen the 2nd running of the Murray Man Triathlon - the race was an overwhelming success and was a testiment to all of the hard workput in by many, many members of our club both on the day and in the months beforehand.

Overall winner was Club member Matt White, who pockets a cool $1800 plus a return Flight to a capital city of choice, curtsey of flight centre. Charolette McShane of Victoria was first home in the women. Shane and Ryan Johnson also performed well in thier build up to Ironman to take out 2nd and 3rd respecively. The Club had many age group competitors and first timers to long course on the day - congratulations to all of you - it was a tough day out there in the wind, that is for certain.

Shane Johnson battled hard all day to take 2nd spot - he looks set for a fantastic Ironman performance.

Pocket Rocket Charlotte McShane of Victoria battled alone out the front, but could not hold off the charge of the elite men and was caught 4km into the run.

Daniel MacPherson from Channel 7's City Homicide competed and finished 4th in his division.

Ella Holmes of the Trikings recieves a drink from the Trikings Aid Station - the Trikings provided over 20 Volunteers on the day and ran both the bike and main run aid stations.

Full results are available on the Murray Man website. Check back soon for more photos from Murray Man and race reports from the Australian Olympic Distance champs in Perth.

Euston Grand Prix Triathlon & Road Trip

Up and coming open competitor Britta Jensen in action at Euston- Britta had a great race to claim 4th spot and some prize money.

Chris "Jnr" Wigell has impressed all in his first season - Chris raced elite at euston, and exited the water in touch with the leaders but unfortunately had a fall during the first bike leg, but toughed it out to finish 8th.

Amanda, Deb, Krista, Nikki, Michelle and Andrew soak up the tension pre race.

Gatti Race 5

A great weekend of racing and an excellent turnout from all of our club members for the final race of the series (Marcus and Trudy have announced a 6th race on March 29th)

.

Race day highlights included Kristina Ahola being the first home overall in the mini (you better watch out Dad, she will be passing you soon...), Victoria's Hockey group joining us for a bit of pre-season training, and the fantastic overall turnout from the club. It was great to see many of our new members out racing, with many showing some great improvements.

Our series winners were as follows;

Challenge: Jay Marlowe, Britta Jensen, Kerry Owens and Trudy Fenton

Tinman: Kieran Evans

Mini: Tommy Eyers and Kristina Ahola.

A great effort by all and congratulations.
